Projects

There are several projects in the works which will be published in this blog over the course of time bi’ithnillaah - some completed and others still on their way (see below). Insha’Allah it’s my intention to see the expansion and completion of these projects. Unfortunately, some may take a very long time due to the actual content (and my time/effort I guess!), others will be wrapped up pretty quickly insha’Allah.

Below are details of what these projects are and where they can be located within the blog (listed in alphabetical order). Please keep refering back to this page for any new updates.

Exhortations of Imam al-Shafi’i

This project aims to translate quotes, from both poetry and prose, and also possible incidents from the life of Imam al-Shaafi’ee, taken from the book titled ‘Mawaa’idh al-Imam al-Shafi’ee. The book is available here and topically covers quotes regarding ‘ilm and the branches of uloom al-shar’iyyah, seeking knowledge, piety, advice and in general the raqaa’iq (heart softeners).

The Advice of Imam Ahmad

A similar project to the one above, but this time the focus is on translating various statements, advice, wisdoms, and incidents relating to the Imam of the Sunnah, Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah). Original text is by the same author above from the same series.

Nuniyah al-Qahtani

This is a gradual translation of the famous poem written by Imam Abu Muhammad al-Andalusi al-Qahtaani [Islamic Spain]. The poem covers many aspects of the ‘Aqeedah of Ahl al-Sunnah as well as points from the different Islamic Sciences e.g. ‘uloom al-Qur’aan, fiqh, hadeeth and also history.

Project status: On the back-burner :)

There hasn’t been many posts on the project Dar al-Huffaadh these past few months and that’s because I’ve decided to turn the project into a small book – which is now nearing completion alhamdulillah.

It was initially meant for some students and tahfeedh classes, but inshaAllah it’ll be made available online too (in some E-book perhaps). So watch this space :-)

Do you know where I can purchase Asbaab al-Mu’eena ‘alaa Hifdh al-Qur’aan’ ?

  3. July 29, 2008 7:46 pm

Wa `alaykumusalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Buthaynah, I’m pretty sure you can purchase it anywhere in Egypt – most likely in al-Zaytoon which is the district where the Shaykh used to do all his talks (the libraries and bookshops there stock all his works).

  4. September 16, 2008 10:14 pm

    Assalamu alaykum ukhtee,

Do you have an estimate on when the book on Dar al-Huffaadh will be completed?

I’m really looking forward to it inshaAllah.

ukhtee, I can’t seem to access the book by Imam Shafi’i rahimahullah..do you think you can send me the link, or better yet, attach the document in an email? I’d really appreciate it. Jazaki Allahu khayran.

Here’s an online copy if anyone else is having a problem with the download:

    http://www.almeshkat.net/books/archive/books/alshafei.zip

Insha’Allah I’ll also send you a copy sis.

EDIT: Hmm, I just checked and the online copy seems truncated (only 2 pages are in the download). They’ve also removed the .doc download. I’ll see if I can find an alternative insha’Allah. Are you having the same problem Amatullah?

  10. October 13, 2008 1:36 pm

Yes that was the problem..I opened the document and it was only two pages! So I thought it was my computer…Barak Allahu feeki.

In the Name of Allāh, The Most Compassionate, The Most Merciful

Pray this reaches you in the best of Imān [Faith] & Health

I have a few questions regarding the great Imam Abdullah ibn Al-Mubarak [ra]. Do you know anywhere were I can get a hold of any [preferablly all] of the following?

    1] – Kitab Al-Jihad [sometimes just called Al-Jihad], By Abdullah ibn Al-Mubarak?
    2] – Kitab Az-Zuhd wal-Riqaaq [sometimes just called Kitab Az-Zuhd, or Az-Zuhd], By Abdullah ibn Al-Mubarak?
And I’ve heard that Ibn Al-Mubarak authored a Musnad, I don’t know if this is avalible or not, but if it is, then this also.
And Imam An-Nawawi relates that he has numerous 40 hadith collections. And anything else that he [ra] has authored. SubhanAllah I am in awe of his great great scholar. I’ve scowered the web [to the best of my ability] but i can’t seem to find anything by him…Subhanallah this is so dishearting for me, as there is nothing that I’ve come across regarding him [from the little there is on him], that doesn’t remind me of the ‘akhira.

Please ya ukhti, if you know anywhere, please direct me! I will be soooo endebted to you!! [You can delete this comment, if you feel it's inappropriate for your fantastic blog mashaAllah].

Wa `alaykumusalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

‘Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak authored many works, but most have been lost in history and never recovered. The first 2 books you mentioned are the only two available I think, but I doubt you can find them readily in Western bookstores… check out the publishers abroad.

Ibn al-Mubarak was the first to make an ‘Arba’een’ (40 hadith) collection, which many scholars after him decided to also follow up on. It’s known that he also wrote a Musnad as well as books on Tafsir, Fiqh, Fatawa, History etc. Sadly, none of these have been found or published – only references to them are mentioned in other scholars’ works.

Stay tuned for the bio which will discuss some of his works and narrations insha’Allah.

Any plans for them to be published then?

If only I knew how to go about publishing anything!

I’ve checked all the UK bookstores for a copy of any of his works to no avail, even some of the foreign bookstore, I’ve e-mailed subhanallah so many bookstore/bookseller, hence i thought i’ve leave a comment here, incase you’ve come accross any who sold his works..

Khair, Qadr-Allah, though i have complete yakeen in Allah [swt], that eventually Allah will guide me to where i can find at least his kitab-al-Jihad and Kitab Az-Zuhd wal-Riqaaq. I know his musnad also survived, and in his introduction to 40 hadith, Imam An-Nawawi mentions, Ibn mubarak authored many 40 hadith collections, and he mentioned something else, which is just SUBHANALLAAAAH!!! He said, when i just mention the name, Abdullah ibn Al-Mubarak, i can feel the baraqah from him, and his work!!! I look forwards to your bio on him [ra].

  24. June 17, 2010 10:20 pm

If you really want a hard copy, you can contact Dar al-Imam Ahmad – I believe they published at least one of his books. They’re located in Cairo:

    Tel: 00202 2414248

Or alternatively, download the books… they’re available online insha’Allah.

It could be that manuscripts of his writings just need to be collected and published. His Kitab al-Jihad was published for the 1st time ever in 1971 (so recent!) and the other one on al-Raqa’iq was also just recently published, first in India and then republished very recently in Beirut. So you never know, more of his works may be available in the future insha’Allah.

I can check the publishers and let you know. There was an urdu translation of the Kitab al-Jihad some years ago.

I found his books at the Cairo Book Fair.

It’s a small collection of Imam al-Shafi’i's quotes and short incidents. Most of the content is probably taken from larger backdated sources such as the classical biographical books. The book itself is most likely published as part of the معالم التربية والدعوة series; Maktab al-Islami in Beirut and ‘Amman. But you can find it different bookstores in Egypt such as Darusalam in nasr City.

I would like to know how did you go about translating books? did you have to seek permission to translate/distribute?

      Wa `alaykumusalam sister,

To be honest, I just went ahead and translated them (after exhausting myself trying to contact the shuyukh!).

But if you are going to publish anything especially if you plan on selling the translation, it’s best to contact the authors or publishing houses and see if you require permission for that.
